«Guardiola should be lauded for speaking up, but there is a spectre hanging over this, and something that is inevitably brought up whenever he says anything of this nature. Ultimately, Guardiola works for Abu Dhabi. You’ll either know all about this already, or you can do your own research, but for the sake of brevity, we can just say here that it’s a state whose Amnesty International page makes for pretty spicy reading. It’s undoubtedly not great that Guardiola, a man with a moral compass, has been happy to work for his Abu Dhabi bosses for almost a decade. His position has been basically ironclad for most of that time, so he is in a strong position to speak up against the dictatorship of his ultimate employers»: esto dice un periodista anglosajón, Nick Miller, en el New York Times en un artículo dedicado al entrenador catalán.

He shouldn’t stick to football, not when football strays relentlessly into power, propaganda and death. But he is also, and there is no other way of putting this, a profound and performative hypocrite. It’s fine to say this, while also supporting his right to speak and applauding the content of what he says. It’s not even a contentious statement, just an obvious A-B piece of logic. But it is also important because of the sheer scale of his hypocrisy, a hypocrisy that also tells us something universal. Even here Guardiola is striding out ahead of the tide line. Maybe he’s the greatest hypocrite. Or at least the perfect hypocrite for our times».
